Story
Along with the various video interviews that have recently surfaced, Johnny Marr's recent book "Marr's Guitars" gives a brilliantly insightful glimpse not only into the guitar afficionado's personal collection, but also into The Smith's iconic sound. It also served as a reminder to us about a particular guitar which has been on our bucket list for a long time: The Super Axe.
An oddity for its time, the original Super Axe featured a massive (think 335-size) yet thin, chambered body with an arched top. Anyone who's managed to get their hands on one agrees: this thing is the king of sustain! It also featured a couple of on board effects, which helped to separate this model even further from the average Joe.
Our recreation of the Super Axe will feature a couple of key changes. Here's the thing... effects pedals have made leaps and bounds over the past 50 years. Rather than force you into a couple of specific on-board effects, we're including the same OBEL electronics and coil tap options as found on our best-selling Wolf Guitar. This way, you can get the full potential from whatever effects pedals you wish to use in your chain. In addition, we're swapping the wrap-around bridge for a tune-o-matic with stop-tail, so you can easily incoporate a Les Trem if desired.
