The Wolf has become my favorite guitar to play. I also have a strat, PRS Silver Sky and Eastwood Tiger. Wolf is the one I grab almost every time. The feel and tone are amazing. I have not tried the OBEL since my amp is a Mustang 100 GTX and has all the effects I need. No issues with it. Set up right out of the box was great. I played around with the Transwarp Pre-amp and turned it up a bit and it really added gain. Had to turn it back down. It has been so much fun to play. I would highly recommend it for anyone. Especially if you are looking for the Garcia tone of the 70’s.
Ordered in May, delivered in October as soon as it was received at Eastwood. I like it. First impressions - Seems like a good guitar, well built, looks great, finish, hardware, inlays all look good. First plug into the amp and the guitar is LOUD compared to others I own. I use a wolf splitter box and had to reverse the tip/ring on the box's stereo input from the guitar to get the loop to work, a common problem. wish there was a battery dead light or a light to show you the preamp/loop is working. This is paraphrased from Scott B's review from 2020. "the lack of instructions... The active gain circuit is extremely "Hot", there is an adjustment pot in the back access panel that allows you to turn the gain down. It comes set at around 9, I recommend turning it back to around 3 or 4 or you will have trouble getting a clear tone. The coil taps for the pickups are down for humbucker's are up for coil splitting. The effects loop is "On" when the switch is toward the bridge, off when away from the bridge. Knowing that the effects loop is "On" when the switch is pulled toward the bridge will help you figure out the correct cable configuration." So far, so good, heavier than a strat, lighter than a les paul standard, plays good, good setup and intonation. now to break it in and give a work out. so many variations of tone with 5 way switch, push pull coil pots, the preamp and the obel, gonna take a little while to dial in. Vince, Michael and the tech that called me back regarding the tip/ring issue were all great to work with. I will buy again from them.
Ok. Let me start saying I’m the furthest thing from a Dead fan you could possibly imagine. But, what I am is a ‘versatility’ dork. I want as many sound combinations on my instrument as possible. Which brings me to my purchase of The Wolf. Quite simply, Eastwood has yet again put out a well built, versatile instrument for a fairly modest price. Multiple sounds. Awesome build. And I havent even used that FX loop yet! Eastwood is my fave guitar company on the planet right now. And your Wolf is just another reason why.
First of all, the look is not "exactly" like the original because the top wood is not burled., some people are disappointed about this, but it makes no difference to me. The neck thru body is amazing. The neck itself is very wide, so it slightly reminds me of a classical guitar neck, it is very fast. The setup was great out of the box, I had to raise the bridge slightly to eliminate some fret buzz. It plays and sounds fantastic!. The only downside is the lack of instructions... Buy a stereo breakout cable so that you have a stereo connection on one side and a breakout to tip/ring with two 1/4" plugs on the other side for anything you want on that loop, you don't have to use it, but it is pretty cool. I have two custom Anderson guitars that run in the $4k range. While this Wolf does not have quite the same quality as my Anderson's, I actually prefer playing the Wolf due to the nut width of the neck. The neck on this guitar is fairly wide, not to be confused with "Thick". I have big fingers, to the wide neck, and low action makes this by far the "Fastest" playing guitar I own. I now have both Tiger, and the Bob Weir signature AC guitars on pre-order. I am extremely happy with the workmanship, and play-ability, and tone of this instrument. This Wolf is NOT the $18k version made by Alembic, however, it is worth every penny I spent on it and then some. You will need to adjust the "Gain" on the trans-warp drive to dial in the break-up you get, out of the box this thing screams, so plan on turning the gain pot down, CCW to around 3. You will know you have the effects loop connected right when it turns on as the switch is pulled toward the bridge. Originally, the nut width was suppose to be 1-5/8", but ended up at 1-1/16" which I love. Workmanship is wonderful, these are built in the same factory as the high end Ibanez guitars are built, so the feel is similar and the neck is extremely fast. I can play things on this guitar that i can't on others... I am completely satisfied with this instrument, while it is not a "Dead on" exact copy of the original, it plays and sounds fantastic and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. If Tiger turns out as well as Wolf, my Anderson's will end up collecting dust. For me, the nut width makes this my most playable instrument, it's fast like a classical guitar can be... If you are on the fence, get off you *** and get one, you will NOT be disappointed. My only wish would be documentation. It does not come with any instructions or guides as to, I think send is "Tip" and "Ring" is return, but i am not in front of my setup, so don't quote me. Knowing that the effects loop is "On" when the switch is pulled toward the bridge will help you figure out the correct cable configuration. I am looking forward to seeing how Tiger turns out and the BW Artist versions turn out. Both show specs of an 1-11/16" wide nut, so play-ability should be very close to Wolf. I only own one other Eastwood currently and that is a $450 Baritone. There is absolutely no comparison between this Wolf and the most other stock, lower cost, Eastwood guitars. Form, fit and function on the Wolf are Night & Day compared to their normal production level guitars so don't be afraid of the cost. Knowing what I know now about this Wolf re-issue, I would pay $1000 more in a heartbeat and still feel like it's worth every penny. Documentation is my only pet peeve which is why I tried to provide as much operational info in this review as I could. Just get one, pull the back plate off and turn the gain pot CCW all the way and then CW to between an approx. 3 to 4, check your effects loop configuration and play. The knobs are "Master Volume", Tone for middle, Tone for bridge. There is no tone control for single-coil neck pickup and it's not needed. This is a fantastic project, get one while you can. Don't expect it to look exactly like the original, there is no wolf inlay, but you can get nice transfer decals if you feel the need. I added a "Bolt" to mine... I can't say enough about the joy this guitar has brought me, I hope it does the same for anyone else that wants to play something that was a part of their musical history. Thank you for making this project happen, if i wasn't a happy customer, i wouldn't already have two more pre-ordered! My apologies for any rambling, I hope some of this info helps someone if they get stuck trying to dial in their tone. Turning down the trans-warp gain is key to getting a clean tone. If you like metal, or a harder edge, keep it at 10 and you will be happy. This instrument can be dialed in for any kind of music...
This wolf copy absolutely exceed my expectations. The craftsmanship, components, and playability are out of this world! So happy i took the leap and purchased this. I had a couple exchanges with customer service as well and they were also extremely helpful. I received constant updates regarding the project. Best treatment I’ve got from a guitar company! If i had one negative thing to say it would just be that i wished they’d put a higher quality 5 way switch in. All the other components seem very high quality. This one works it just doesn’t seem to match the quality level. If that’s the only thing i can think of, i can live with it! Thanks Eastwood!
This guitar is absolutely amazing! Once you pick it up for the first time you already know even before the first note is played that it is the real deal.. yea.. that’s the stuff! Solid, concise, true are words that come to mind.
First of all, let me say I own 6 Eastwood guitars. All are very good to excellent in quality, and all play very well. This Wolf guitar however is on another level. I could immediatley see it was a much higher quality than any other Eastwood I've bought. I believe these are made in the Korean factory that the high end Schecters, & ESPs are made. NOT ONE FLAW! It is absolutely perfect. The playablity is wonderful, I am having a really hard time putting it down. The neck feels perfect, and it feels like a custom made guitar. The tones are what blow me away. If your a Dead head you'll hear it right away! It makes its own tones that, well sound like Jerry's guitars! Really cool experimenting with all the tones. Love the Brass and thick chrome hardware. Takes me back to the 70's when this is what a custom expensive guitar looked like. Excellent guitar.Great job Eastwood. I would continue having your guitars made in this factory.

Hi, Does the Wolf have DiMarzio Super 2 pick ups ? If Not, what kind of pick ups are they ? Thank you
Does the Wolf come with a Brass Nut as pictured. Some of the third party photos seem to show a white/plastic/bone nut. Thanks
Where is the Wolf Guitar made? Where can one buy one? And is the list price just that a list price? Does it come in at a lower price?
Just checking in on where the supply line is now getting Wolf delivered.
