Sidejack Baritones Explained: Find the Model That Matches Your Style

by Ellen Angelico

We love baritone guitars here at Eastwood. Baritone guitar tuning (B-E-A-D-F#-B, low to high) beautifully complements a wide variety of musical styles. Whether you add a little vibrato for classic country tones, drown it in reverb for surf, or crush it with distortion for rock, a baritone guitar is guaranteed to expand your creativity.

Baritone guitars should be every bit as easy to play as standard guitars, so our popular, playable Sidejack Series is the perfect fit for this extended range design. The Sidejack Series is inspired by vintage Mosrite guitars, and improved with modern neck profiles and larger fretwire than the often-hard-to-play originals. We make five different baritone Sidejack models and each one is a little different with something unique to offer. In this blog, we’ll run down the features of each baritone Sidejack guitar so you can decide which one is right for you.

Sidejack Baritone

Let’s kick things off with the one that started it all: the Sidejack Baritone. This classic Eastwood model set the course for every Sidejack baritone to follow. The bound basswood body in the classic “reverse Stratocaster” shape, set maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, vintage-style Eastwood P90s with a 3-way switch, 28-inch scale length, and 1 5/8-inch nut width are specs all Sidejack baritone guitars share.

Sidejack Baritone in the surfiest finish: Seafoam Green

The Sidejack Baritone has a rock solid Tune-O-Matic bridge and a stop tailpiece for excellent intonation and playability. Like all the guitars featured here, it ships with baritone light-gauge strings: with string gauges from a .013” on the high B to a .062” on the low B. The Sidejack Baritone comes in five classic finishes—Seafoam Green, Sunburst, Red, Metallic Blue, and Black—all with chrome, Gotoh-style hardware except the Black version, whose gold hardware gives it an air of refinement.

Sidejack Baritone 20th LTD

When the Sidejack Baritone turned 20, we celebrated with an anniversary model. This eye-catching baritone guitar keeps all the specs, tone, and feel players love, wrapped in seven finishes all new to the Sidejack Series. Plus, each finish features a commemorative 20th anniversary logo on the headstock.

The finishes of the Sidejack Baritone 20th LTD cover a wide range. There’s the regal and refined Metallic Gold, with its black pickguard and pickup covers giving it an almost “blackguard T” look. Or how about the Stormtrooper-esque White on White, with its crisp white body and matching pickguard? And for the players who need to stand out, there’s the nearly neon Modena Yellow. We dare you to try and look away!

Sidejack Baritone DLX

You can’t talk about baritone electric guitars without talking about vibrato. Whether it’s the “boing” of Spaghetti Western or washy, Twin Peaks-esque soundscapes, vibrato adds dimension in a way few other techniques can. The Sidejack Baritone DLX has all the same features as the Sidejack Baritone, with the addition of a Fender-style vibrato system (think Jazzmaster) and an adjustable roller bridge so you stay in tune no matter how far you dive-bomb.

There’s a Sidejack Baritone DLX finish for every vibrato wrangler including two classy-looking bursts: Sunburst and Greenburst. There’s also the striking Sonic Silver finish, which looks great with the German carve of the offset body. Lefties can get in on the action with the Sidejack Baritone DLX LH, finished in Black with handsome gold hardware. Whether you’re right-handed or left-handed, if you want to wobble, the Sidejack Baritone DLX is the baritone guitar for you.

Sidejack Baritone Plus

The guitars above feature two vintage-style Eastwood P-90 pickups, with 3 way pickup selectors and volume and tone controls. That covers a wide sonic palette, but tone chasers might crave a little more versatility. That’s where the Sidejack Baritone Plus comes in.

At first glance, it looks like the regular Sidejack Baritone, but under the hood we swapped the P90 in the bridge position for a Vintage-Voiced Dual Coil humbucker pickup for warmth and rich tones. Like the others, you can switch pickups with a 3-way toggle, but the Plus also adds two mini-toggles: one for phase reversal and one to split the bridge pickup coil. Any baritone tone you can dream up is at your fingertips with the Sidejack Baritone Plus.

The Sidejack Baritone Plus is just too cool to let righties have all the fun. So we’re proud to offer a full-featured left-handed version, available in the attractive Tobacco Burst finish.

Sidejack Baritone Fretless

Perhaps merely exploring different tones on a baritone guitar isn’t enough for you. Perhaps your brand of sonic adventure requires not just more tones, but more notes.

Enter the Sidejack Baritone Fretless, which takes the iconic Sidejack silhouette and ventures boldly into new terrain by removing the frets entirely. The result is an ultra-expressive instrument blending the deeper tone of a baritone guitar with the vocal-like textures of a fretless fingerboard.

This model keeps everything players love about the Sidejack Baritone—the retro aesthetic and punchy P90s—while opening up the microtones and glissandos only a fretless instrument can deliver. It’s available in a Redburst finish that is beautifully complemented by the gold mirrored pickguard, and it is also available left-handed.
